Hey masterjskye,

I had a tourney before, this one:
http://www.majorcommand.com/Tournaments/Tournament.php?TournamentId=142

Do you think you could make another round for that?
With the very same settings, but with this name and description:

Putting yourself to the test II

Not so long ago, we were looking for the meanest, baddest, ugliest competitor of this site. We found him -- his name is kows.
The only problem is, you know, no matter how mean and ugly he is, he is just not smart enough, hell no. He must've had luck, right?
So here's the deal: if you think you are uglier and meaner than even him AND you can outsmart us... well, here's the time to prove it.

I've got one that I want to play, simply because its my favorite map, and type. 12 Domains, Unlimited, Anywhere.

Not sure about the buy in (I'd like 5 points), or the breakdown (70/20/10?).

Anyway, onto the specifics:

Team Dragons

To truly master the Dragon, One must start with teamwork. Only through your experience working with others, will you be able to defeat this mythical beast. Of course, as you progress in your training, you’ll find yourself relying on fewer partners to complete the task. In the end, only the greatest will be left standing. The ‘Chosen One.’

Round 1:
"To win this round, your entire team must work together to defeat your enemy…"
(8 games) (96 players)
12 Domains
Players: 12
Objective: Standard
Teams: Sixers
Reserves: Escalate
Reinforcement allowance: Unlimited
Reinforcement: Anywhere
Force: Chance

Round 2:
"You've learned the basic skills needed to defeat the beast, but you’ll still need help along your way."
(6 games) (48 players)
12 Domains
Players: 8
Objective: Standard
Teams: Quads
Reserves: Escalate
Reinforcement allowance: Unlimited
Reinforcement: Anywhere
Force: Chance

Round 3:
"Only two companions by your side now. Can you still win?"
(4 games) (24 players)
12 Domains
Players: 6
Objective: Standard
Teams: Triples
Reserves: Escalate
Reinforcement allowance: Unlimited
Reinforcement: Anywhere
Force: Chance

Round 4:
"You’re not ready to go it alone…yet."
(3 game) (12 players)
12 Domains
Players: 4
Objective: Standard
Teams: Doubles
Reserves: Escalate
Reinforcement allowance: Unlimited
Reinforcement: Anywhere
Force: Chance

Round 5:
"You’ve worked well as a team... so far. But to be The Chosen One, you must go it alone."
(1 game) (6 players)
12 Domains
Players: 6
Objective: Standard
Teams: singles
Reserves: Escalate
Reinforcement allowance: Unlimited
Reinforcement: Anywhere
Force: Chance

And a pretty little picture:

nice, but a 96 player tourney will take a LONG time to fill up...

I agree, but I enjoy sixers on the map. I'd be open to cutting that round however, and then it's a 48 player with quads to start. I'll leave that decision up to whomever actually builds it. Just maybe double the buy in if the first round is cut.

Nice one Blublank, your tourney is up and running. I did cut it down to 48 though. No one likes to have AWOL team members and at 96 players that is a very real possibility. I also tweaked the reward a bit.

Two Tournaments Suggestions

In my travels across the wilds of MajCom I have met more than a few folk who wished to make tournaments. Unfortunately these poor souls had not been bestowed with the powers necessary to accomplish this feat.

I had been previously blessed with the power of the T.O's, and I knew what a rare gift this was indeed. I was among only a very small handful of active players that could (and would) make tournaments on a semi-regular basis.

I pondered this seeming imbalance for a while, in the mean time creating a few tourneys of my own. With the help of a precious few the tournament system has ticked over alright, but I'm sure some of you will agree we could do with a bit more action on this side of the proceedings. Quite frankly, we need some fresh ideas.

I have decided it is time to share the power of the Tournament Organisers with you all, in a thread aptly named The Tournament Generator. This thread, in fact.... :

Only in recent months I started exploring the forums ... and I still have several territories like this thread and the "map development" section that I haven't discovered yet ...

So I just read your post from 10 months ago ... First of all ... I got to say that this is one of the greatest exhibitions of generousity I've seen in the forums so far, so first of all thank you for that, we are all very grateful. I was informed of the content of this post (without knowing there's a post) by someone in one of my games who told me that I just need to send you a picture and the details and you'd take care of it ... so I contacted you privately and you did. Thank you for that. I didn't even realize at the time that I wasn't necessarily following the protocol and the exact specifications you specified here, so you probably had to labor a little adjusting the image. This time I adjusted the images to make it easier on you. Both images are exactly 500x150 jpg, and less then 30 kb. I know you said "less than 100", I just want the page to load faster ;-)

I know that there are many players who are "dying" for some head to head tournaments and I have some ideas. Here are two:

*********************************************************************************************

I would love to have in the long run, eventually 1v1 championship tournaments on every single map. I chose these two in random first. The reason I chose those particular settings is because I think that whoever starts has enough advantage as is and if they get 6 troops as soon as they have a set that would be too much power. So it had to be either "escalate" or "escalite", and i think that on such small map having such huge shifts (2 is huge for such a tiny map) would definitely make things less balanced. So I think "escalite" is the most balanced and fair way.

If anyone thinks differently, please share your opinions, and explain your reasoning please.

On the Massive map I am really not 100% certain which Reserves system will produce the most balanced outcome. I chose "escalate" eventhough I personally have the least experience with that particular choice just becuase I think it may lead to the "most balanced outcome" since getting 2 more troops may compensate for going 2nd ...

When it comes to buy in ... you're the expert ... so it's your call ... the more the merrier ...
When it comes to the award breakdown, it would be nice to divide it as much as possible. I have no idea how far you can divide it, but it would be nice to give something to 2nd and 3rd places as well. I would recommend something like 60,20,10 (each of the 2 3rd places gets 10)

Same for both tournaments.

What do you think?

Thanks for the kind words, and tourney concepts. I wonder if anyone can rise to the challenge and defeat you :)

I've made the turtle tourney - I'll get the massive one soon. Too tired right now (2am here).

One thing about split pots - 80/20 and 70/20/10 are what we know are possible. It does seem to let you create a tourney with other numbers though so I plan to experiment soon with other numbers but it might break some stuff... One thing to remember is that the 10% in thgis case gets split between all members of the semi-finals. A 1v1 tourney is the only time I'd use that kind of split as usually it is only a couple of points to each player if it's a big game.

I Researched a Little Tournament Prize Breakdown

Thank you masterjskye! you're the best!

Loved your writing in the description, you're always very witty there. (at least the ones I've seen)

I just got curious ... so I went to see how Wimbeldon distributes ... It's pretty close to this ... 57/29/14

http://www.wimbledon.com/pdf/Press_Release_Prize_Money_2013.pdf

They actually reward 2nd place by almost 50% more ... and 3rd place by 40% more (more than what you did I meant). It's probably cause they set it up when the Labor Party was in power ;-)

So if you wanna set up Massive 57/29/14 that would be awesome and just like Wimbeldon... I'm gonna look next to see how other grand slams distribute :)

Yes ... I guess I don't need to look at anymore ... I assume it's 57/29/14 for all :)

http://www.tennisnow.com/Blogs/NET-POSTS/July-2013/US-Open-Prize-Money-Breakdown-for-2013.aspx

Most likely the same for Challenger tournaments too ... and most likely follows the same exact distribution in other sports!!

Thanks masterjkye,

Unfortunately I messed up a little bit in the original calculations. That's what happens when I try to think straight in the middle of the night :)

In my previous posting the ratio is correct, 1st place makes twice as much as 2nd place, and 2nd place makes twice as much as 3rd place.

However, in Wimbeldon, or any other tournament, the prizes are cumulative. In other words, when you advance a round, you don't drop the earnings up to that point. So given that information I calculated again and came up with the following breakdown 58/25/17

So looks like this time 2nd place will benefit, and get a little more than they're due ...

Please let me know if it's possible to give something to 4th place, or 5th ... and I'll calculate the appropriate distribution next time. I think it would be cool to give an appropriate share to anyone who wins a game and passes a stage, and the prize points just keep doubling in every stage. That's the way it's done in any tennis tournament, and I would guess that it's probablly done the same way in many other sports that have a cup tournament.

I just checked the distribution in England's Football Association Cup as an example:

http://www.thefa.com/TheFACup/More/prize-fund

and it follows the exact same logic for the first 3 places. It does get a little tricky though from 4th place on (it's using gradations), but the bottom line is that it is the same for the first 3 places in football as well.

It might be possible to give for 4th place and beyond, but we're pushing the known boundaries here. Just have to try it and see.
