I'm at a loss here...if I have over a hundred turns , and only missed 2 turns in my very first or second game out of 20, doesn't that qualify for a 50 consecutive turns medal ?

There's a known bug with that medal. It took me a while to get that medal too. I made hundreds of turns before getting it.
