I've got you beat Ob....I'm ALREADY reading this after I'm gone from the tourney. (If I'd have known there was going to be commentary, maybe I would have tried harder. heh)

Another no-show, B1G4NF hasn't been seen for 6 days, missed 4 turns and finally went awol before disco finished him off in round 5 and gained himself an easy 44 points and is through to the next round

cadet osupharm11 emerged victorious from a tense 6 round contest with jbrenner01, carrying away with him 52 points and all the lieutenant's cup aspirations.

Obthundersnot felt the icy wind blowing in his contest with Lackov and will have to watch the rest of the competition from the frozen sidelines

patsfan44 blew the final whistle for Jalthise's hopes for silverware in a 9 round battle of equal rank.

Ongoing games:

dijibise has found Intrpt's passive defence a hard nut to crack, though now the private has finally gone AWOL the cadet will shortly be joining disco and marc369 in the ranks of those who have had a bye into the next round

Fortune seems to be favouring thone in his 9 rounds (so far) tussle with Pitman212, though the warrant officer hasn't had it all his own way, despite being outnumbered at one point by 22 to 5, the pfc has fought his way back to having a one unit advantage, 14:13. It's thone's turn, however, and with 4 cards to Pitman212's 3 and with the set standing at 10 one suspects that Pitman has a storm to weather ahead.

With 5 cards (set at 6), senior captain Riskyone has an excellent opportunity to enforce his will over Owlcraft, though currently on even troop count the lead corporal has only two cards to respond to riskyone's onslaught.

The final three games of round one all went as suggested in my previous post, digibise beating the awol Intrpt, riskyone beating Owlcraft and thone winning over Pitman212

ROUND TWO

The 16 games in round two are:

ironztiger vs kows
itahiza vs paesico
th-child vs miquel
GloboGym vs osupharm

gravity vs mvpoker
marc369 vs CaptainDanger
lamby vs Potstuck
thone vs digibise

ndrm31 vs iluvatarr
maren vs lancecorporal
Lackov vs Patsfan44
tresitophd vs Chilly

PKHustle vs airwick
daangeennaam vs ST33L
joshualucas7 vs LeCBass
disco vs riskyone

...and we're off to a flying start with some fast action from Pfc itahiza and Lt paesico who gave us an eleven round nailbiter from which the enlisted man emerged victorious over his superior officer, gaining 51 points for his efforts.

Lt ndrm31's australian forces proved too much for Cpt iluvatarr's thinly spread europeans, overunning them in just six rounds and booking a slot in the last 16 for their boss.

It may be a long way away, but all those remaining can see the light glinting off the polished silverware in the distance - for two of them now there's only 4 wins in a row to go before they can hold the coveted cup to the sky!

The results continue to come thick and fast, in a blistering game of only 3 rounds Chief Lt miquel saw off the challenge from Charge Cpt th-child. The victor hopes that this will see a return to his old winning ways and an end to his recent poor form

With the favour of The Dice Gods Lead Cpl tresitiphd took an early lead against Chilly and despite a spirited fightback from the Chief Lt finally managed to crush his opponents chances for the Cup in the eighth round, gaining 47 points in the process

Charge Cpt airwick could do nothing to contain PKHustle's steady expansion from an African base until the Major forced him out of the competition in the seventh round

despite an even first half Sgt lancecorporal found his fight deserting him in the second, being unable to take a card in his last two turns and proving easy prey to the silent and determined efforts of WO maren.

ongoing game: it appears that gravity is discovering what rolls downhill as Dpty Major mvpoker has built an impressive lead of 47:33 in the first two rounds. It's gravity's turn to go as they enter the third round and unless he can begin to make good the deficit the superior numbers of the highest ranked officer left in the run for the cup will be sure to tell

Cadet daangeennaam made short work of Master Sgt ST33L, finishing him off in a quick 4 rounds, snatching for himself 57 points and a slot in the last 16 in the process

LeCBass used the unusual tactic of taking two neutrals in the first round. A bold move that paved the way for his win over joshualucas7, seven rounds later.

Lackov took both australia and africa in his first round and added south america to his commands in his second. patsfan44 had no answer to this in his third turn and was wiped out before he could take his fourth

WO CaptainDanger's reckless play in the early rounds of his fight with marc369 cost him dear and allowed the Chief Lt book his place in the next round and confirm his right to be there after his first round default win.

gravity has taken the fall and succumbed to the superior tactical skill of mvpoker in a wary game in which neither party took a command until the sixth round

lamby failed to show for his match with Potstuck, missing three turns and going awol, giving Potstuck a free ticket for the next round.

Senior Cpt thone took dijibise on a dance around the board, virtually exchanging starting positions, before finishing him off in the 6th round and taking a whopping 15 points from the unlucky Cadet

ironztiger's confusion over the starting rules did little to affect his relentless rise and victory over the unlucky kows

ongoing games: Lead Cpl disco is proving no push-over for Senior Cpt riskyone, in fact the noncom has gained a numerical superiority of 21:30 over his superior officer. It's riskyone's turn and he'll have to pull a rabbit out of his hat to turn over disco's advantage

with a 39:22 advantage, being next to go and due 13 troops to his opponent's 3, GloboGym would really have to drop the ball most severely to fail in his tussle with osupharm11

osupharm11 will have to watch the next round from the sidelines as GloboGym books his place in the last sixteen.

ongoing game: A somewhat strange redeployment decision from disco has given riskyone a lifeline in the last game of the round. The Lead Cpl still has much the advantage, but the Senior Cpt isn't going down without a fight.

Lead Cpl disco finally saw off the persistent Cpt riskyone and took 48 points in the process

ROUND THREE

The eight games in round three are:

Lt marc369 Vs Cadet daangeennaam

Gunnery Sgt itahiza Vs Senior Cpt PKHustle

Cpl tresitophd Vs Gunnery Sgt maren

Cpt ironztiger Vs Major miquel

Staff Lt ndrm31 Vs Senior Cpt thone

Lead Cpl LeCBass Vs Cpt Potstuck

Staff Lt Lackov Vs Lead Cpl disco

Lt GloboGym Vs Major mvpoker

With each remaining player having won twice now they're already thinking about where to place the cup in their trophy cabinet.
The lowest ranked player is Cadet daangeennaam, who must be hoping a good cup run will help propel him back up the ranks, the highest are Majors miquel and mvpoker

Lt marc369 Vs Cadet daangeennaam
In round 8 marc369 has 5 cards and 41 troops on 34 regions with an income of 15. daangeennaam has 4 cards and 9 troops on 6 regions. It's the Cadet's turn but even if he cashes an early set of 8 the numbers would seem to be against him

Gunnery Sgt itahiza Vs Senior Cpt PKHustle
Round 9 sees itahiza down to two lonely troops facing the newly promoted Major PKHustle's forces. gg has been said.

Cpl tresitophd Vs Gunnery Sgt maren
The Corporal seems to have the upper hand over his superior noncom, controlling Africa with reasonable borders, while maren has no command in sight. The Gunnery Sgt could possibly break into Africa, but he'd need the favour of the dice gods

Cpt ironztiger Vs Major miquel

Though both player's have just been demoted miquel must be hoping to regain his crown as he's taken both australia and antartica whilst ironztiger has no command in near sight and a tough ask to break either of his opponents

Staff Lt ndrm31 Vs Senior Cpt thone
In a game who's beginning's were plagued by bugs thone has exterminated ndrm31's hopes for silverware this season and is the first player through to the quarter finals

Lead Cpl LeCBass Vs Cpt Potstuck

LeCBass has taken both South America and Australia in round 5, it's Potstucks turn and he has 4 cards but though he might be able to break one of the Lead Cpl's commands with an early set it would seem unlikely that he'd be able to break both. And LerCBass has 5 cards to respond with.

Staff Lt Lackov Vs Lead Cpl disco

It's only the second round, each player having had but one turn, but with the aid of a favourable starting position Lackov has managed to take and hold onto Africa. With an advantage of 57:49, and 10 men to come on the music must sound pretty sweet for the officer, but less than groovy for disco

Lt GloboGym Vs Major mvpoker
The Major has missed his first turn and hasn't been seen for 2 days 20 hours! As he was second to go GloboGym has had two turns to stamp his authority on the game. He's forced an advantage of 64:50 but has failed to take a command. If mvpoker makes the deadline of 18 hours 25 min (as of now) he'll have 11 troops (including deferred) to try and even the score - if he misses again one would assume that his flush has been busted.

Lt marc369 Vs Cadet daangeennaam
marc369's 9 round win over daangeennam has effectively squashed any lingering doubts over his right to be here following his first round default win. The victorious Lt. can step proudly forward and take his place amongst the 8 to go through to the quarter finals

Gunnery Sgt itahiza Vs Senior Cpt PKHustle
The Senior Cpt delivered the coup de grace to itahiza in the 9th round and he joins thone and marc369 in the next round

Cpl tresitophd Vs Gunnery Sgt maren

tresitophd's domination seems inevitable with a 40:18 advantage and 12 troops to come on. Although maren has 5 cards there would seem to be little he could do to stem the tide

Cpt ironztiger Vs Major miquel
It seems miquel's recent demotion was a mere temporary misunderstanding as he has already regained his Major's crown. As he continues to dominate the now Chief Lt ironztiger with a 21:55 advantage it seems he'll be wearing it into the next round. Both players have 5 cards but sets of 4 and 6 look unlikely to affect the outcome

Lead Cpl LeCBass Vs Cpt Potstuck
LeCBass has managed to maintain and consolidate his position with now 3 commands to his name and an advantage of 49:24. It's PotStuck's turn with 10 men to come on but one suspects he'll need the favour of The Dice Gods to turn the tables on the noncom

Staff Lt Lackov Vs Lead Cpl disco
Lackov has had 3 turns and has taken 3 commands, disco has just taken his turn and managed to take America, though with the officer having 14 troops to come on it would seem that disco faces an uphill battle to keep it and to ah ha ha ha stay alive

Lt GloboGym Vs Major mvpoker
mvpoker has missed another round, allowing GloboGym to consolidate his position, taking South America and Antarctica, however he's only managed to attain a 57:38 advantage. with an income of 4 and 11 deferred troops to come on if he takes his next turn the Major could conceivably put a crimp in the Lt's plans

Already through: thone

Cpl tresitophd Vs Gunnery Sgt maren
As expected the tide of tresiphod's forces has washed maren's chances of holding the cup aloft away. Having lost a battle of 10 to 1 in the course of the game we can but wonder what great evil maren has done to earn such anger from The Dice Gods. Cpl tresiphod becomes the first noncom to make it to the finals.

Haha, keep it up! I wish all tournaments with 24-players or less had commentaries like this. It's good for the active community and I bet it would persuade more of our new members to keep playing. Almost like a sport on its own. :)

Cpt ironztiger Vs Major miquel
miquel led from the front and imposed his will on the game, freezing out ironztiger. miquel may have lost his crown. again, but he's gained a place in the quarter finals

Lead Cpl LeCBass Vs Cpt Potstuck
LeCBass pressed home his advantage and forced Potstuck out of the game and the competition, taking 46 points from the officer and becoming the second noncom to take his place as one of the final eight

Staff Lt Lackov Vs Lead Cpl disco
disco is finding himself in the middle of a chain reaction as Lackov took a little, then took him over, setting his mark on stealing the game away.

Lt GloboGym Vs Major mvpoker
mvpoker has returned to the game with with tales of a family emergency. As if real life affairs could be as important as playing internet games with strangers... He's taken one turn but is within 3 hours of missing his next. GloboGym has taken 3 commands and has a 42:32 advantage. Even if the Major makes his deadline his 4 man income will have a lot to do to significantly reduce the Lt's 15 units plus 4 man set to come on next turn.

Although mvpoker managed to make the turn deadline and do some damage it was to no avail as GloboGym cleared the board on his next turn leaving the now Charge Cpt free to concentrate on more important matters while the now W.O. GloboGym takes 43 points with him into the next round.

Unlike Gloria Gaynor, disco will not survive, at least not in this cup competition, a fortunate deal allowed Lackov to lead from the start and to become the macho macho man of their game.

QUARTER FINALS

The four games are:

Chief Lt marc369 Vs Charge Cpt PKHustle

Lead Cpl tresitophd Vs Charge Cpt miquel

Lead Cpl LeCBass Vs Staff Lt Lackov

Charge Cpt thone Vs W.O. GloboGym

The eight Quarter Finalists have all won three games in a row to get to here, the finals map, they feel they are on a roll and have probably cleared a space in their trophy cabinets ready to receive the Cup. Only four of them can go through to the next round however, while the rest will have their dreams crushed under the feet of the semi finalists.

Chief Lt marc369 Vs Charge Cpt PKHustle
In the first round marc369 took the Horn and Eastern Europe and deployed into Columbia to forstall PKhustle from taking all of S.A. PKHustle responded by breaking the Horn and taking the Stans and the Andes, though he couldn't entirely eliminate marc's Columbians. In the second round marc369 broke both the Stans and used his Columbians as a seed to break the Andes and increase his presence in S.A. which was decidedly meagre. He also took Mozambique, extending his lead in Africa where, though he has no commands he is very much the dominant player. The Charge Captain is already down to an income of 14 and will need to produce something special to stop the Chief Lt from running away with this game.
