Today I broke a treaty (sorry elfword). I forgot I had a treaty so I unintentionally broke the treaty (the attack was fully planned to, I did mean to assautl Cape Hop). Do take full responsibility, so bring on the -30 on the diplo score.

Some suggestions to prevent future mishaps:
[1] pop up when trying to assault; are you sure? (I know diplomacy tab now flashes up, but that is under the fold for me, so I didn't notice)

[2] Outline territories that are treaty bound with another color (or make them completely red) in the assault phase

A Treaty Breach Alert System of some variety is being discussed. Don't feel bad, I did the exact same thing awhile back.

does one need to actually TAKE the territory to activate the violation,

or will a single attack do so?

or is it the actual killing of an army?

A simple attack will do it of course. I should know, I have 2 broken diplos!

Hmmm...if you don't conquer the opponent it might not count on your score. I broke one treaty (it even says as much in the diplomacy tab) by attacking the guy, but I didn't take the territory, and my diplomacy score hasn't changed.

mnnnnn... very interesting...

would you mind terribly doing a little more research on this...
make 2 or 3 treaties in each of your games, and then violate them to different levels and record the effect..

be sure to have at least one where you attack, but don't take even 1 army...
another where you take armies, but not the territory...
and of course one where you kill all...

AND THEN...

see what happens when you try combinations of the above attacks in the same turn, but against different territories (separate treaties)
Be sure to try every possible combination...

Report back when your diplomacy score hits zero... lol
