Right now the notification is a bit unclear to those not tuned in/paying much attention to it, a lighter player name up top and a one-line mention in the Record tab.

I’m thinking a red light/green light icon next to their name (only for those going AWOL, not for everyone) would make it clearer who is gone and if/when they have returned, of if not that some other icon next to their name on all relevant screens.

I explained this to you in a game but this will not really be effective under the current system. because of the following scenario :

Round 2

Player 1 - Plays
Player 2 - Goes Awol
Player 3 - Plays
Player 4 - Plays

Round 3
Player 1- Player 1 plays his shot with player 2 AWOLl
Player 2 - Misses Shot AWOL
Player 3 - Plays shot with Player 2 AWOL
Player 2 - Returns To Base
Player 4 - Plays Shot knowing player 2 has returned

Round 4
Player 1 - Plays his shot
Player 2 - Plays his shot
Player 3 - gets confused because player 2 was completely awol on his last shot but just attacked him before his go on this round
PLayer 4 - plays as normal - they knew what was happening

So When you return to base you do not automatically miss a shot - all you do under the current system is sit out until the end of the round...which is similar but also completely different.

Under the old system the player missed their next turn regardless of when they returned but the coding has obviously changed to be based on the round rather than the actual turns

i'm so glad the coding was changed so that players returning to base are not sat out another round (kiss of death). also part of playing is noticing things, checking the record, etc., so some of these things have to be on us, i feel to pay attention to. i also like that the choices and coding for awol seem to have lessened people taking advantage of the ability to give the appearance they are permanently out of the game but then returning to base later. but u really have to put some thought into your game settings, as some of us have learned with the no mercy setting!
You have missed my point.

In the scenario I have listed Player 3 cannot simply check the record and act accordingly.

On his turn in round 3 Player 2 is completely awol - if he checks the record it will say so.

On his next turn in round 4 Player 2 has already moved.

The only way to plan for that is to assume nobody is ever really awol

i understood your point. i actually should have just commented on the thread as my comment was acknowledging just your one point about the coding having been changed so players aren't sat out an extra round, but the rest was in response to zenon's suggestion about an extra alert that someone has returned. like poker, this is a visual game and i don't think everything should be done for us so that we get lazy about paying attention. sorry for any confusion though

Fair enough.

You said you liked the coding though because it had lessened the awol advantage but I actually think this way is a lot more open to abuse and manipulation... I am not gonna explain exactly how publicly though ;)

The old coding didn't make people miss out an extra round you would always just miss the turn after you returned- it just seemed to be based off the actual turn order whereas now it is based on the round so you may or may not miss a turn depending on when you return during the round.

Either miss a turn or don't miss a turn - I am not here for that argument - but sometimes missing a turn depending on the exact situation adds an extra lottery element into awols for everybody concerned.

Whether there is a visual indicator or not my point is more that this inconsistency needs to be resolved because you cannot always tell from looking at the board on your shot whether an awol player will move in the next round or not. (So in fact a visual indicator could actually be unhelpful and misleading under the current system)

you can tell if u check the record. but i'm out of this discussion. enjoy :)
