Mobile Phone Suggestion Thread

Hey all.

Okay, this is how it works:

  • If you use a mobile phone to play the game, and you have any suggestions, post them below.
  • If you want to test the latest version on your phone, go to : https://playmaj.com/

That's it!

Thanks.

one thing i noticed is that when changeing tabs on the map screen (to chat for intstance) i have to refresh the page when i want to see the map again.
otherwise i like the little tweaks you made to make attacking and reinforcing easier, not sure that it needs to zoom in quite as much on the effected territory (i found myself zooming out again in most instances to regain orientation on the map)
zooming and scrolling works well i think.
i am on ios safari

When you click on INTEL, CHATTER, RECORD, etc.... Click on them a second time to close the popup. Let me know if that works.

yes you are right, this works. probably should have figured this out :)

A new update to Intel, color picker, and chatter has been deployed to playmaj.

Ok....now that i had the time to play with the mobile version....here is my thoughts. I also realized this is a work in progress....and im sure you are already aware of some of the issues.

1. When creating a game and selecting a map....users may get stuck in no-mans land and can't scroll up and down unless they have tiny fingers like me to touch the beige background (with the red arrow)

2. In the game...i like the layout 😃
Love the ability to zoom and have names...ease of changing colours and accessing the tabs etc. Nice job. 👌

3. When playing the turn...this is where it gets clunky. Get rid of the black info box. It serves no purpose. It's more annoying buttons to press and it disrupts the flow of the experience.

4. Just let the player select their tert as per usual since we are able to zoom in now. This box will confirm whether or not we have selected the correct terts. Just make it smaller. Like HALF the size? You can make that box zoom-able...maybe? Not sure.

5. The black box also hides the bottom of the map so you are can't do anything there. For example: tirums keep is at the bottom right corner. Once the black box pops up, you are unable to select the terts to attack because you can not move the map behind it to select for it.
I've invited you to a game for you to try it out. This is also true for the bottom left corner. The solution is to get rid of the black box.

You will notice in the screenshot that the map is fully zoomed in and can not be moved to see tirums keep.

6. Keep it up. This is a tough project to take on....ill get more nitpicky as we move on....for now these are just big ticket items. You will know when you got it right when I fully move off of desktop mode on my phone 😁

My 2 cents from a 95% phone user 😁

Okay,

  1. The 'create-a-game' map page should now be scrollable
  2. The black info box is now gone
    1. tap once to highlight a territory
    2. tap twice to select the territory

I'm not sure if it's "good enough" to push it to the live site (majorcommand.com) or if it should stay on playmaj for now.

Either way, ready for the next things you want fixed.

Yay! The black box is gone. 😄 tbh, the double tap is driving us crazy.

1. Yes double tap is required for deployment. I already do that for desktop mode. The double tap will initiate when the beige deployment box pops up.

2. During attack mode and reinforcement, NO double tap. Logic: you need to select two terts then the attack box will show up. This is how it's currently set up in desktop mode. I prefer that. So get rid of the double tap during the attacking phase and the reinforcement phase.

3. When the beige box pops up, can we make that box smaller? Like half the size? Or at least the user can change the size and move it around?
I have a better idea....You could put the beige box down below the map?

Logic: players like me like to see the map when advancing troops after the attack....especially when you had unexpected hot/cold dice....i can't remember how many troops the bordering troops had and the box covers the map...in fact the entire page.

Otherwise looks great! I would switch over once the tapping issue is modified. 😆

There is a new update on playmaj.com on the mobile version of the game page if anyone is interested. Just pick, start, and play a game on a phone to check it out.

I can't log-in bilsi on playmaj.com but I can log bilsi2...What's up what dat?

playmaj uses different usernames/passwords than this site. So maybe you have a different password for bilsi on playmaj?

Okay, new mobile update on the game-page.

  • popups can be hidden
  • the background map is scrollable
  • you can view the map in landscape mode
  • + and - button auto increase when held
  • lots of styling fixes
  • fixed issues with region selection

That's about all I'm going to do with the mobile version of the site.

If there are issues or things you would like improved or changed, let me know below. Otherwise I'll be moving on to other things.

Thanks!

when i switch from portrait to landscape mode, most of the buttons (like intel, chatter, etc.) disappear - i dont mind this, as i could use landscape mode just for looking at the map. however on small screens (like mine) it would be nice if landscape mode were in fullscreen? i dont know how complicated this is to do, or what roles browser play re in this. but what i find a really nice feature is a fullscreen mode (in landscape) where the navigation bar dissapears when scrolling down. lots of news sites use this, f.ex. https://www.theguardian.com/europe

edit: this is just a minor detail though. i usually try to play on a proper screen anyway.

Yeah, making it mobile friendly with custom controls has been extremely complicated and fragile.

The reason is exactly what you hinted at: the game is inside a browser.

Majcom is not a downloadable app where you can create anything you want. It is a website whose rules are defined and controlled by the browser. Chrome, Safari, Edge, Firefox, they all create the rules, and we have to bend and adjust and adapt within their playing field.

I think I took it as far as I could on the game page. There are some styling things I could adjust, but each time I added or changed something functional, I broke something else.

Nevertheless, I looked into what you said about the Guardian and it turns out that the Guardian does not do anything special. Full screen is a browser thing. The moment you start scrolling down a website in landscape mode, the browser itself removes the address bar to make more room, not the website.

Look at the Guardian again and notice if the address bar is there when you first rotate the page, if it disappears if you scroll down, and if it reappears if you scroll up.

That's the browser doing that.

Unfortunately, this works for webpages, not images - because you can't "scroll down" the map page. You can only pan and zoom the image instead, so the browser never ends up hiding the address bar.

I've looked into workarounds, but it doesn't seem possible to make the browser think the map image is a webpage.

thanks for looking into this, i am absolutely ok with how things are now! this was just sth i noticed, since you asked for final feedback.
& thanks for all your efforts & good work, majorcommand is really coming together. i think it is already better than the old flash site used to be. we only need more players :)
