Have your messages marked if they have been read or are unread, can be very helpful when you have a quiet a few messages. This would be best if was highlighted another colour or something.

i completely support this suggestion. our current notes system definitely needs some work. :)

Extending this to new items, too, would be great. Rather than having to delete a news item to get rid of the persistent "Inbox (1)", you ought to be able to just mark it read, and keep it around. I was just about to post about this.
