Not sure of the maps yet. Please advise. One will be Classic Massive, one The British Isles, one Classic Africa. Not sure of the others, perhaps 12D. Won't be Land Rush...
if i read this right:
for round 1 you have 3 players, 1 neutral (4)
for round 2 you have 4 players, 1 neutral (5)
for round 3 you have 4 players, 1 neutral (5)
for round 4 you 2 players, 1 neutral (3)
for round 5 / final, you have 2 players, 1 neutral (3)

so rounds 4 & 5 are very similar to 1vs1 games, and i would advise against too large of a map for those, so that 1st turn advantage is hopefully not as pronounced.
(maybe with the exception of europe massive IF settings will be 1 or 3 border reinforcements. i dont have much experience with these settings, but the few games i played were surprisingly balanced for such a large map)

you want to include classic massive, british isles & africa - all are on the larger side, so id probably use those for rounds 1-3

i think 12d could be a really good pick for this tourney, since going after neutrals will involve taking over dormant domains. maybe a good map for the final?

other good maps for 1vs1 in my opinion are most small maps: duck & cover, mesopotamia, 1984. also nukes because it is nukes.

and just to clarify: you write "Winner of the tournament defeats the 'N" - does defeating the neutral win the game (as in the round before), or does the winner of the game get to take out the neutral for points?

Changed things up a bit....should be able to get 32 in the next 14 days...Have a look, thanks.

Ok, here's basically what's going on...I'd like 32 players. I will wait 2 weeks. If I can't get 32, I'll go with 28, or 30.........................................still 12 days left.

Round #1..........Classic Massive.....3, Path, Chance, Escalate.....Hopefully going with 32..........8 games...player vs player vs player vs player vs 'N'..........2 points for defeating the 'N'.....1 point for defeating a player.....
If you defeat the player that defeats the 'N', you Do Not steal the 2 points. You get 1 point for defeating the player.....
Lowest score in each game is out...tie is first one defeated.

Round #2..........Conflict Africa.....3, Path, Chance, Escalite.....16 players..........4 games.....player vs player vs player vs player vs 'N'..........2 points for defeating a 'N'.....1 point for defeating a player.....
If you defeat the player that defeats the 'N', you steal the 2 points and get 1 for eliminating him/her.....
Lowest score in each game is out...tie is first one defeated.

Round #3..........British Isles.....3, Border, Chance, Escalate.....8 players..........2 games.....player vs player vs player vs player vs 'N'..........2 points for defeating a 'N'.....1 point for defeating a player.....
If you defeat the player that defeats the 'N', you steal the 2 points and get 1 for eliminating him/her
Lowest 2 scores are out...tie is first one eliminated.....

Round #4..........Nukes!.....1, Path, Chance, Escalite.....4 players..........2 games...player vs player vs 'N' vs 'N'..........whichever player wins, wins.....The 'N' is just there for decoration.....
or first player to eliminate a 'N' wins?
or you must eliminate one 'N' before defeating the other player...
Map.....IN or OUT?

Round #5..........12D.....3, path, chance, Escalate.....2 players left..........1 game...player vs player vs 'N' vs 'N'..........Defeating a 'N' gives you 2 points.....Defeating the other player wins the tournament.....
lets have some more input re: what the 'N's will be used for. I don't think I'll change the maps or settings. I don't see what the 'N' can be used for in the last 2 games...or again, you must eliminate one 'N' before defeating the other player...

maybe @SgtPatton can weigh in here, having much experience with games involving neutrals. since round 4 & 5 have 2 players & 2 neutrals those could maybe be team games, where the players have the ability to reinforce "their" neutral team members in order to protect them from being taken out?

If it's a 1v1 tourney I'll pass. But if it's multiple people in a game, I'll play.

Please ignore the 'End of the Year Tournament' thread...

This will be a singles tournament. I've figured out a new format that I think you will all enjoy.
I won't be able to use any tournament maker so I'll be using Google Sheets like I did last time I ran some tourneys.
I don't want to be flooded with ideas so I've asked 6 other players to help me out with the rest.
I haven't even thought about maps or settings.
Tournament will start December 01 at noon.
I'll post everything here once we get things figured out...

Have 22 players now, hopefully we can get it to 32 players...still about 12 peeps that I haven't heard from yet.

Ill play

The neutral players are not an option, at least as far as I cam tell. Periwinkle may be able to say more on this.

Previously to add a neutral player required being able to log out and then log back in as a neutral player, join a game and then log back out and log back in as yourself. Currently, at least as far as I can tell, that is no longer or at least not currently a working option.

I like neutral players, especially during 1x1 matches, they help level the playing field. 2 or 3 neutral players is even better to reduce the 1st to play advantage. The last tournament was an example of that in action. Those who were 1st to play won over 75% of the matches and those who played 2nd lost 75% or more of their matches.

It takes out the incentive and enthusiasm for 1x1 matches.

Bilsi, by offering to play as a neutral, will be penalized in his personal score for losing ever match that he enters as a neutral. So the guy who does all the work of developing and promoting the tournament is the one with the most to lose :(

4 players and a neutral so basically 5 players...

Peri will add the neutrals when I get the games set up. I'm gonna play. Look at all the points I can receive. 👏

i'm confused. if peri can still add the neuts to the game, then why would bilsi "play" the neut? neuts that take action are not like the dormant neuts (even in team games we could only deploy on them, they could not act) so how is that going to work? and since this isn't a 1v1 tourney, maybe the basic idea (starting with more players per game) can work wo using neuts?

The whole basis of this tourney was to throw a neutral in. I can't remember saying I was going to be the neutral. I just wasn't going to play. I guess we can drop them from the game. We should get 32 players. We needed 5 rounds to finish but with the neutral idea we need a 6th round. Won't need it w/o the neutrals...I'll mess around with the format again today...

I would not be sad if neuts dropped out of the equation, should you be taking a straw poll.

To Sgt's point, I'm not sure how they affect turn order? A neut may technically go first, but one "real" player will still go before the other, so I don't get how it affects the advantage?
