just out of curiosity, maybe it has been asked / answered before - but i cannot find it.
as i understand it, there used to be plans to implement fog of war in the nukes map. i take it this plan has been abandoned? entirely?

I must kind of disagree.

Yes, the answer was swift, and yes, as far as I understand, fow is on the list, but then everybody who's been around for a little while on this site should know that it's being recoded and lots of new features should be available once that's done. However, empirejeff, who is not one of the admins of this site and who hasn't contributed a single penny towards it so far (but has clogged up the waiting games list for months with loads of 24-player crusade games) is not the right person to answer this question.

I don't want to claim that I am - since I don't know much more about the status of fow, but I hope that it will be implemented in the recode. There hasn't been any update from the powers that be for a while (or I missed it), but maybe this is the right time to ask for one?

FOW is on the list, but low down.

The general rule for updates is in order of urgency, importance, and which will have the most impact.

1) Finishing the new engine is urgency, importance, and will have the most impact.
2) Then adding some new rules so the map makers can finish the maps that have been shelved for years.
3) Improving the site in general
4) Then adding specific features that affect only one aspect of one game, like FOW.

FOW can be implemented in all the maps, IMHO, it will change all the maps giving a new gameplay! It could be like having 20 new maps with just an update... :)

It's true. I rushed that answer. I should have said "adding specific features that affect only one aspect of one game, or features that are slightly more complicated will be lower on the list"

Oh. I guess I should add that the code for the new game engine is pretty much finished. Just a few more additions and it should function. The current part Marcos and Ibnu are working on at the moment is adding the UI to the engine. Basically making the troop containers appear correctly, listing the player names and other info on the Intel tab. Adding info to the Records and Personnel tabs. Getting the cards and their colors to display. Making the attack/advance/reinforce box look like it does now. Those kind of visual things...

Then, I think, the next step after that would be to integrate the whole thing in to the current site. Or perhaps integrate the current site around the new engine. Not sure which way it goes. But nonetheless, there still needs to be some rigorous testing in the meantime. All I can say now is, geez, the new game screen is responsive. No lag at all. And it's build to update easily too. So I there is light at the end of this tunnel! ;)

alright, thx for the clarification sheriff. like i said, was just curious (every time i see that satellite), but understand of course there are more pressing issues to be resolved first. nukes is a great map as it is (& fow should be optional in any case i think), and the prospect of new maps so far shelved exciting! looking forward to all your tweaks & plans, cheers
